firsts, seconds, and random thoughts

boy has this past month or so been somewhat of a rollercoaster.  i don't even know where to begin...

let's start w/ someting happy...so i was sad that i couldn't be a counselor for pd this summer b/c of the mcats and such.  but i was still able to be a friend of pd, teaching some of the counselors and campers a body worship to "who am i" that i learned in acf.  i didn't have much time w/ them, but i was so impressed how fast they picked it up!  and i was so proud of them when they did it for family nite.  the guys were so smooth w/ their turns haha.  and i thought the kids' dulcimer performance was so cute.  another blessing was that i was able to see some of the old campers from last summer.  my had they grown!  some of them were taller than me now.    but what was really awesome was to see all my small group girls from last summer, anna, hoi man, and jenny at twr (friday nite fellowship for middle school kids) one nite.  it was pd nite and it was great to see anna and hoi man there, and it was a wonderful surprise to see jenny there who didn't attend pd this summer.  that was something i prayed for last summer, and it was so awesome to see it actually happen, even if it was a summer later.  praise God!  i just pray that they'll continue to go to twr and church.  i loved seeing my girls!

now for a bunch of new experiences i've had recently:
1.  had my first alcoholic drink - most ppl are excited to do this as soon as they turn 21 (if they haven't already).  me on the other hand had it 4 months or so late.    my kind "uncle" peter and chia chi treated me to dinner at a nice restaurant called the elephant walk.  he asked me if i wanted a drink and i said i had not yet had one before so he thought this would be a good time to try it since i would be under his supervision.  so i ordered a strawberry daiquiri since i thought i should start w/ something really fruity while they had glasses of wine.  the verdict - i don't like alcohol.    i dunno why, but it just tastes so bitter to me.  they told me i should have a sip of their wine, so first i tried her white wine, and while it was sweet at first it quickly turned bitter.  then i tried his red wine and that was just disgusting.  haha.  he could totally tell that i would have preferred a virgin strawberry daiquiri, but it was too late and i did my best to try to finish it.  i guess i just don't have the taste for it.  since then a few friends have tried ordering me or making me a drink, the really girly ones too.  i keep telling them they're just wasting their money, but they try nonetheless (and usually end up having to finish it for me) b/c they wanna find something i like.  i've tried a malibu cranberry, a screwdriver, a rasberry flavored wine cooler, and some concoction made by a bartender when specifically asked for a drink that hides all the alcohol (you can bet he had a really confused look on his face and i was pretty embarrassed...but i could still taste the alcohol and i didn't enjoy it).  and i've had a sip of beer, but that was gross.  so far i've liked the screwdriver and wine cooler the best, but that's probably b/c there was hardly any alcohol in them.    my theory is that i have such a strong sweet tooth that it makes the alcohol taste so bitter and yucky to me.  alas, i think i would just prefer soda or water.  i guess you can always count on me to be the designated driver!
2.  went to many great restaurants in boston for the first time - armani cafe on newbury, elephant walk, top of the hub, and maggiano's.  all for different reason's, but all had delicious food.  starting to appreciate the fine dining available in boston, but it's not like i'm gonna go to places like these very often since it requires lots of mula, which i don't have to spend.
3.  went clubbing on landsdowne st. - rite after the mcats were over, some friends and i went to celebrate by going to dinner and clubbing.  there were actually 3 of us who had never gone before, so it was fun sharing this experience w/ them.  we went to embassy since a few ppl in our party were under 21, and i hafta say, i really enjoyed myself.  and it was really funny b/c as we came in they were playing "promiscuous," which had a special meaning to me, sarah, steffers, matt, and alex b/c of our fun car ride the other nite.  we had pretty good numbers, 7 girls and 4 guys, and thankfully it wasn't too crowded (there's lots of other clubs along the street), so not too many sketchy guys (although one guy did approach regina...i was so impressed at how lima just casually swooped rite in and made the guy back off).  the music was pretty good, although there were times when everyone was ready for the next song and other times when they only played a clip of a really good song.  there were some really really funny moments  and memorable ones too.  and of course there were the "bump and grind lisa b/c she get's so uncomfortable and laughs and runs away" moments.    thanks girls, love you guys.  can't beat a fun nite w/ great friends and dancing.  i'm up for going again, definitely not for the alcohol or sketchy guys, but just b/c i love to dance.  we'll see.

speaking of dancing, who was an obsessed fan of "so you think you can dance" and watched every week this summer?  ::me raising my hand, jumping up and down::    i'm so glad benji won.  i never voted, but i would have voted for him.  although i really liked travis, donyelle, allison, ivan, and musa too.  gosh, i would love to be on a show like that.  not that i am at all qualified since i have no training whatsoever, but i would just love to learn all those amazing styles of dance and choreography.  i just watched step up last nite, and although i wish there was more dancing in it, what they did do was awesome!  i enjoyed it, although i'm not the best movie critic since i pretty much like everything except a few here and there.
my favorite songs of the summer:
1) "sexy love" by ne-yo (especially after this...i just love dances w/ props and the ending is soooo cute)
2) "promiscuous" by nelly furtado
3) "buttons" by the pussy cat dolls.
now that i think about it, all 3 songs were performed on the show.  and i really like the new snow patrol song "chasing cars" too, even though it doesn't fit in w/ any of the other songs i mentioned.  i'm sure the step up soundtrack has a lot of good dance hits on it.

anyway, as i mentioned before, i took the mcats for the second time.  and again it was mad hard.    but this experience was a lot better than the last time that's for sure.  last time they booked the same room for 2 things, we ended up starting the test an hr late which meant we got out really late too, there was an annoying light, and it was just an unpleasant experience.  this time the day flowed smoothly, the proctor was this really funny indian dude, and i got to sit beside a girl i knew.  i dunno why, but for some reason this time i wasn't as stressed about the test.  maybe b/c i'd done this before, or b/c i had other stuff on my mind, or b/c i know God is faithful and was w/ me the whole time.  i think it was a combination of all three.  but it was a miracle b/c 2 weeks before the test i got sick (along w/ everyone else from church it seems like), but during the weekend of the test, i felt completely better, and then i got sick again on monday.  so God answered my prayers and healed me for those few days when i needed it.  as for the scores, i just pray it improved a few points.  i'm so scared that it's gonna be worse...that would be a nightmare.    but whatever, it's over w/ and all i can do is wait and see 2 months from now.

something else that's been keeping me busy is my med school apps.  gosh, so complicated and annoying to fill out.  i'm applying to 14 schools, and rite now i'm just praying i'll get an interview.  to be honest, my gpa isn't great and i don't feel like my writing skills are up to par either for my personal statement, but what's done is done and now i've gotta work on the separate texas application and secondary apps.    so not fun.

and in the midst of all that we're moving.  ahhhhhhh!  so much to do!  we've already started packing and moving stuff into storage today since our lease ends the 31st.  currently i am sitting in the one chair left in our apt, surrounded by a sea of boxes and random stuff lying all over the place.  for real it's a disaster area.  and since we moved our beds and tv, i'm looking forward to these next few nites of sleeping in a sleeping bag w/ my laptop as my only source of entertainment.  but i guess i'll be busy after work anyway since we've got a lot to clean up.  and this is how i will be spending my last week of summer...working, packing, moving, and cleaning.    but i guess i shouldn't complain since some of my friends have already started school.

which brings me to another thought...this is my last year of college.    the other day when i went to the bookstore to buy textbooks, the guy who checked me out asked me what year i was and when i told him i'm going to be a senior, i was kinda sad.  is it bad that i'm already sad about the upcoming year?  i can't help but think that this quite possibly could be the last time we do this, or do that.  this year senior large group is for us.    omg, i already know the senior slideshow is gonna be really bad...there are just too many embarrassing and funny moments w/ our class.  i'm gonna be laughing so hard and probably crying at the same time.  but this is gonna be a great year.  i'm excited to be a small group leader for west campus, and i'm excited to meet the new frosh.  amy and i have already started choreographing a new dance, and you can bet there's gonna be more.  God's gonna do some amazing things, i just know it.  ::sigh::  class of '07...we gotta live it up this last year.  and yell OH-SEEEEEEEVEN even louder.

can't believe the summer is almost over...it's been a good 4 months.  lots of good laughs, experiences, and memories.  God is good, all the time.

my oldest bro's wedding

::WARNING::

this is gonna be a REALLY long entry b/c i'll be doing a lot of explaining and noting a whole bunch of details.  this entry is not only for friends to see pics and what not, but it's also for me to try to remember everything about this special occasion and keep a record of it.  after all, this is an online journal.  so if you wanna just look at the pics, feel free to skip all my rambling and scroll further down.

thursday, june 29th - went to church after lunch to continue decorating.  earlier this week had been spent w/ my mom and my sister preparing, buying, and making the decorations.  not only did we want everything to look beautiful, but my mom had put my name and my sister's name as the decorators on the program.    so if it all looked good my mom would be modest and not take any credit for it, and if it looked bad everyone would have thought we did it.  sure it was stressful and tiresome at times, but thankfully everything did look wonderful.  my mom made the pretty white flower arrangements for every other center pew, we had big white bows on all the other center pews made by a lady at the craft store, and then i did the white lace ribbon part that blocked ppl from walking into the center aisle.  and of course my mom wanted to decorate the cadelabras and communion table, so we spent the afternoon doing that too.  while we were busy w/ decorating, steven, my oldest bro, and the majority of the groomsmen were on their way to tulsa.  my sister and dad picked up mike from the airport, and steven, henry, and art were driving up from dallas in steven's car and a rental white lincoln towncar or something like that, the wedding car.  they were supposed to meet up w/ mike at the rental tux place, but the rest of the guys were late.  so mike came to church for a while and when we were almost done decorating we went to the tux place.  my parents went home for dinner and my sister and i stayed w/ the rest of the guys.  i couldn't remember what henry looked like even though i'd met him a couple of times before since he's like steven's best friend from college.  so when we got there we shook hands w/ henry and also introduced ourselves to arthur, or art as he goes by.  if you saw and heard art speak, you would think he's a southern boy...so we were surprised to find out that he's from syracuse, ny.  so the guys went in to try on the tuxes and kinda modeled them for us.  haha.  they needed to make a few adjustments for henry and steven, so they were gonna pick up the rest saturday morning.  then we had to check in the guys at the hotel.  it was really funny b/c most of the guys brought like one of those small rolly suitcases...but not art.  he had a big suitcase full of stuff.  i told him he packed like a girl.    like me actually.  haha.  but he said he just wanted to be prepared, again something a girl would say.  but i don't wanna give the impression that he's girly guy, b/c he's a typical tall white guy (although when you see one of the pics you might think otherwise, but i'm getting ahead of myself).  anyway, we were supposed to eat dinner, but we were gonna be late for the wedding rehearsal, so we ended up just getting fast food from mdconalds and headed back to church.  usually when ppl think of wedding rehearsals you think of getting dressed up and then going to the rehearsal dinner afterwards.  well it was a total casual nite w/ no rehearsal dinner b/c emily, my new sister-in-law, and most of her family were driving up from oklahoma city, which is like a 2 hr drive, and actually had to go back to okc afterwards since some ppl still had to work on friday.  but they actually left late and then got lost, so they came like an hr or two late.  but it was ok since that gave my siblings and i time to practice our songs we were performing at the reception.  they finally arrived and we went through everything twice.  then we ate some food and they had to get going since it was already pretty late and then we went home after cleaning up.

friday, june 30th - in the morning my sister and i went to get our nails done at this place i went to w/ jenny for her wedding, where they do french manicures for only $5.  when we got home henry and mike were there helping my brother do a test run of decorating the wedding car.  and my dad had just got back from the airport from picking up my uncle who came from toronto.  my aunt and 2 cousins couldn't make it to the wedding b/c of some passport issue, but it was really great to see my uncle who i hadn't seen in a couple of years.  so after they were done steven, moses, henry, mike, my uncle, my sister, and i went to go get art who had stayed at the hotel to sleep more so that we could go to lunch at golden corral.  why we went to a buffet before the wedding when i know my sister and i were worried about fitting into our dresses i have no clue.  but it was good food and we had a good time.  art was asking us about tulsa, what ppl do around here, steven's embarrassing moments, and stuff like that and we were just chitchatting, laughing, and have good conversations.  i hafta say art is quite a funny guy.  steven and art used to work at the same dental practice in syracuse, and he said that art is quite the ladies' man b/c he's so funny and that girls are always around him...and art replies w/ if i'm such a ladies' man why am i still single?  but i hafta admit he really is a personable, funny guy.  he was getting along really well w/ the waitress, this older married woman who was really nice and amusing.  he said he really liked how ppl here are just so nice and friendly, and he even got a hug from her before we left.  he said he wanted to move to the south b/c everything is cheaper here and the ppl are so much friendlier than up north, which is totally true.  then we had to leave for okc to practice w/ steven's friend and go to the traditional vietnamese engagement ceremony at emily's house that evening.  i had also made plan's to see jenny in okc for dinner since it's closer to norman than tulsa.  we left a bit later than planned and stayed at fred's house (steven's awesome musician friend who was going to play the electrical guitar w/ us for "this way" by jewel) a bit longer than expected too.  but fred's house was awesome b/c he had his own personal studio w/ tons of professional music equipment.  we practiced once or twice w/ steven on drums, fred on electric guitar, moses on acoustic guitar, me on bass and singing background vocals, and sofia w/ lead vocals.  here are some pics from that...

haha art trying to be a drummer

mike actually took a couple of videos of our practices w/ his digital camera and posted them on youtube somewhere.  and fred quickly recorded our last attempt and even burned us a copy of it.  it's not like totally awesome b/c we were in a rush and the drums were really loud, but i think it's still pretty cool.  so if you wanna hear the siswanto family perform "this way" we have it on cd!    by this time we were totally off schedule...i had to keep calling jenny to tell her i was gonna be late...and then steven had to get to the hotel.  so henry drove me to pho hua to meet up w/ jenny and sean while steven, sofia, and mike went to the hotel.  it was really funny b/c the past two days henry had been doing a lot of the driving around tulsa and okc and it seemed like he was a pretty timid and non-aggressive driver.  but while driving me to the restaurant he was going fast and turning on yellow lights and changing lanes a lot.  i told him i didn't want us to get into an accident b/c of me, but it was pretty amusing.  while henry was driving like a mad man, moses, art, and i were having a conversation about nicknames.  art wanted to know mine, but i didn't want to tell him b/c of one embarrassing one in particular.  so he kept bugging me to tell him, saying he would tell me all his embarrassing ones if i told him mine.  so i gave in and after he explained many of his i had told him mine and had to explain sasquatch to him.  thanks a lot kim.   then he wanted to give me a nickname, and said i reminded him of the girl in karate kid 2, and that he would call me that if he could remember her name.  i personally have never seen it, so if someone could tell me who that is and what she's like in the movie that'd be nice.  hopefully he doesn't think i'm some annoying dork or something.  anyway, i finally got to pho hua after getting a bit lost and got to see the bauers!    it's so weird to call you guys that.  haha.  even though i knew we'd only get to meet for like an hr, i just had to see jenny and give her the wedding/6 month wedding anniversary/birthday present i made for her.  it was really awesome getting to talk and catch up w/ them, but it was definitely way too short of a visit.  but at least i got to see her.  we wanted to get boba but we ran outta time.  so they dropped me off at the hotel and i had like 15 min to change and get ready for the engagement ceremony b/c all the bridesmaids were supposed to wear the traditional vietnamese dresses emily got for us.  when we came down the guys were waiting for us and art said something like i was the prettiest sasquatch he's ever seen.     haha.  then we loaded up all the stuff and headed to emily's house.  we had to carry in the gifts and roasted pig and then had the nice ceremony.  here are pics from that...

ok i hafta prep this pic...so emily's cousin, one of the bridesmaids, made t-shirts for all of us w/ "bridesmaid" written on the front and supporting titles on the back...like mine had "lil' helper" on the back and sofia's had "support team" on hers.  my sister thought it might be a bit small on her, so art decided to help her strectch it out a bit for her...by putting it on himself.  omg i almost died laughing...

and one more time

gosh he is just too funny.  anyway after that, we headed over to someone's house to pick up the fresh flower arrangements and bouquets and boutenniers (sp?) which was a bit hard since they were pretty big and difficult to put into the van and cars to bring back to tulsa.  but we managed somehow and left for tulsa.  we got there around 11:45 pm to pick up dwight from the airport.  dwight is steven's old high school friend and i think back in 2nd or 3rd grade i had a crush on him.  and i only have one memory w/ him...it's from a time at church when we had a piggy back race, me on dwight and my friend on steven.  i can't remember who won though...anyway we picked him up and took him to the hotel.  then finally we went home and went to bed around 1 or 2 am.  i feel bad for my parents and steven though b/c they had to go to church to meet the bridesmaids who brought the flowers and arrange them.  so i think my parents said they didn't get to bed until around 4 am.

saturday, july 1st - so i set my alarm for 6 am b/c the bride and bridesmaids were supposed to meet at the salon at 7 am, but i totally slept through it.  thankfully sofia woke me up at 6:45, and i was in and out of the bathroom in like 20 minutes ready to go.  that was one of the quickest showers i've ever taken.  then steven drove us to the salon and we waited for our turn to get our hair done.  the thing is my mom told us that we were all gonna have the same hairstyle, but when we got there they asked us what style we wanted.    so we frantically had to look through some magazines to find something we liked.  i ended up putting my hair up in a ponytail and they curled it and stuff and made it look pretty.  then it was time for makeup, and guess what girls...i did it myself!    haha i know it shouldn't be that big of a deal, but anyone who knows me knows i don't wear makeup and whenever there are dances and special occasions i always get my friends to help me.  but this time i was a big girl and had to do it myself, and i hafta say it wasn't too bad.  i actually invested in some makeup stuff before i left for boston.  but back to the big day, so there were 7 of us trying to get our hair done and makeup ready and my brother had scheduled us to be there for 2 and 1/2 hrs...yeah definitely not enough time.  we were like an hr late...oops.  we were supposed to be at the church by 10 at the latest, and we got there around 10:45, and the wedding was supposed to start at 11.  so we all rushed into the changing room, helped emily into her dress, changed really fast, and didn't have any time to do any touch ups or anything.  it was time to start the wedding.  so we were standing in line, waiting for our turn to walk down the aisle, and it was pretty nerveracking, trying not to trip in our shoes and go at the rite pace.  when i did this for jenny's wedding, i had borrowed her contacts so i couldn't really see anything far really clearly.  this time i had my own contacts and could see everything clearly, but i wasn't sure where i should be looking.  but whatever we all made it w/o falling on our faces.  the wedding ceremony was nice...emily was absolutely beautiful and it was all very touching.  did the normal wedding stuff, welcomed the guests, had a short message from pastor ahn, sofia did a great job singing "how beautiful" while they lit the unity candle, exchanged rings, and said the vows.  so they hadn't planned on saying personal vows, but steven surprised emily, saying his own words to her.  it was very emotional and he started crying (2nd wedding i've been to where the groom has cried along w/ the bride), and then he sang "i will be here" by steven curtis chapman to her.  oh gosh, that brought on the tears.  i had given lisa a tip about hiding tissues in her bouquet for emily in case she needed them, and they did come in handy.  but i should've put some in all our bouquets b/c i know i was tearing up and i heard sniffling from the other bridesmaids too.  tried so hard not to ruin the makeup.  then they had a time of prayer together and they kissed and were pronounced husband and wife.  so originally they had paired me up to walk w/ my brother moses, but he protested saying it would be weird.  and thank goodness for that b/c i didn't wanna walk w/ him either.  haha.  so it ended up being emily's sister (her name is lisa too), the maid of honor w/ moses, me and henry (henry and moses were the best men), sofia and mike, tram and dominic, choe and dwight, and thi and art.  i'm glad this time i had henry's arm to hold on to walking out of the sanctuary.  then we stood in the receiving line and shook hands and said hi to all the guests.  it was good to see church ppl who i hadn't seen in a while, like the adults and parents of the youth, and as they came by they all said how pretty we looked, but a couple of ppl also said they didn't even recognize me.    i know i got contacts over winter break and they didn't really see me w/ them before i left for boston, but i was very surprised how ppl kept saying that.  anyway apparenty the ceremony was really long...according to bing like an hr and 1/2.  which was crazy b/c i dunno how all of us bridesmaids made it wearing those heels for that long w/o falling over.  but after the ceremony was over it was time to take pics.  and here they are...

actually this was before it all in my dad's office...the groom and groomsmen

so after the professional photographer was done, we could finally change and eat.  except when we got out there everybody was already gone!    they had already started cleaning up!  we totally missed all the guests, and i didn't get to say hi to bing and jason.  it was kinda sad.  but we had to quickly eat and clean, then drive over to okc for the wedding reception if you can imagine.  when we finally arrived at the cowboy hall of fame (i know it sounds lame but it was a really nice banquet hall w/ a pretty fountain in the back), sofia and i got changed back into our bridesmaid dresses and redid our makeup.  got to mingle a little bit w/ the guests who came from tulsa...saw some familiar faces of ppl who had moved and other church ppl.  got to see daniel one last time and chatted w/ him a little before things began which was cool.  then they started introducing the families, and then the wedding party (at that point we had to run off stage and then come back again w/ our partner).  then they started dinner, like a 9 or 10 course meal.  pretty crazy huh?  except it was all seafood, which wasn't to my taste.  but not like i had much time to eat anyway since we were all running around doing stuff.  got to eat a little bit in the beginning when steven showed the slideshow...i didn't know he put some pics of us in it...the early ones were cute...but the later ones were so not.  haha.  thankfully there were only 3 or 4 embarrassing ones.  both the indonesian and chinese fellowships entertained us w/ music during dinner.  then they cut the cake...

then it was time for a costume change...jk.  it was time to change into our vietnamese dresses again.  luckily the groomsmen didn't hafta change or anything, they just kept their tuxes on all nite.  but henry was really sweet and said i looked very pretty when we came back.  then the whole wedding party and parents from both sides went around to each table to say thank you for coming and to ask for advice and encouraging words.

pic of all the guests we visited

so that took a really long time and we were way off schedule.  and sadly i only had the chance to eat like 3 of the dishes of the really expensive meal.  oh and a piece of cake at the end.  i also thought i was finally gonna have my first alcoholic drink, some champagne, but never had the time to.  there was a bottle at our table but no one opened it and i was always off running around.  so until another day.  anyway, lisa, henry, and moses gave their toasts to the couple as tradition goes.  then it was our time to perform.  this was another surprise to emily from steven.  i was getting really nervous on the drive to okc, but when we got up on stage i wasn't too nervous i guess.  so we did the first song by jewel pretty well i thought.  the only bad part was that at that point ppl were already starting to leave, and i'm not sure how much emily actually caught of us b/c she had to say goodbye to the guests.  i guess it was understandable for the tulsa ppl who had to drive back, b/c it was probably around 10 or 10:15 pm by then.  then i had to switch the bass w/ my violin and we did "runaway" by the coors.  that one didn't go as well b/c i kept messing up on the plucking part b/c i thought they couldn't really hear that part (but i was wrong as i found out later) and then sofia forgot to sing the chorus twice at the end, so we were all confused about the ending and yet somehow managed to end together even though i think we all finished on different notes.  but oh well.  anyway, here are some pics of the performance...and mike also took a video of it too which is cool.

and then steven played the guitar and sang the song he wrote for her for valentine's day a few years back which i thought was really sweet.  man i'd love it if a guy wrote me a song. anyway, then they had their first dance to the song "when you say nothing at all," but i forgot who sings it.

mr. and mrs. siswanto    (it's weird that i'm not referring to my parents when i say that haha)

then they left the dance floor to say goodbye to guests, most of which were gone by then.  then it was supposed to be time for all the guests to hit the dance floor, which if you know me you could guess that that was one of the things i was looking forward to the most.  steven had burned songs from all kinds of genres to play at the reception...we're talking about everything from hip hop to love songs to 80s music to disco/funk music and he made a playlist of the songs that he wanted moses to play b/c he was the dj for the nite.  so he played the first song in the list, which was "promiscuous" by nelly furtado & timabaland and i absolutely love that song.  but there was no one who wanted to go out to the dance floor and i definitely wasn't gonna go out there by myself.  earlier when i was talking to choe she said she was gonna hit the dance floor too and when the song started playing we both looked at each other and i thought she was gonna go out to the dance floor so i took off my shoes and was all ready to go, but then she said she wanted to get a pic w/ steven and emily first.  so then i sat back down w/ henry, sofia, and mike, really wanting to go out there.  but i knew henry wouldn't wanna go.  he's like a typical azn guy (ok i might be stereotyping a bit but whatever)...when he's w/ his buddies and w/ guys he's talkative and funny, but when he's around girls he's really shy and quiet.  don't get me wrong, he is so nice and so sweet, but i knew he wouldn't have gone out there to dance w/ me to that song.  the day before we had joked about wanting to see art and henry to go out there and battle, new york vs. houston (and of course i made the obvious comment that the knicks always lose haha).  then art came over and said he wanted to go out there and and start shaking his butt which he kindly demonstrated for us.   i wonder if he would have gone out there if i had asked him, but that would be a bit weird i guess.  so no one went out there during that song.  then mike and henry both told moses to play something slow, which i think actually they both would have danced to, but moses said he had to follow the playlist.  which i thought was lame since it was like 10:30 pm, and we had to be outta there by 11 or they would get charged extra.  and then they started packing up the sound system and i was so disappointed.  then moses said he would try to get them to play one more song.  then dwight asked me if i knew how to swing and i was like no and then he said he would teach me.  so then sofia, mike, dwight, me, art, and henry all went to the dance floor waiting for the song.  dwight showed me a few steps for west coast swing and another type of swing which i thought was impressive that he knew all that stuff.  and then moses got them to play one more song and you know what it was?  YMCA.  ugh.  i mean it was fun for like the first verse and chorus when we were doing like old school moves like the cabbage patch and sprinkler and the actions for the song, but then it just got lame.  and art was telling him to play 50 cent "in da club" but he said he had to follow the playlist.    so we only got to dance to YMCA at the reception.  gosh, i'm still waiting to actually dance at a wedding.  'cause all the weddings i've been to before, they didn't even have a dance floor.  so when steven told me the banquet hall had one i was so excited.  phooey.  maybe next time.  then it was a mad rush to change and get everything cleaned up and outta the room before 11.  i dunno if we made it or not, but we were definitely in the back docking area trying to move all the big stuff and pack stuff into cars past 11.  then it was time to part.    hugged lisa and her mom goodbye and shook hands w/ her dad.  hugged dwight goodbye and thanked him for teaching me a bit of swing.  it was a little awkward w/ henry b/c at first we kinda shook hands and then hugged...but as we were hugging i told him that he owed me a dance next time and then he promised me we would.    and then it was funny when art was saying goodbye to my parents, he asked my dad if he would adopt him.  oh art, such a funny guy.  then i hugged him and told him he owed me a dance too b/c earlier in the afternoon he asked me to save him a dance.  then we finished packing everything into our car and lingered around for a bit.  and then it was so embarrassing b/c when my mom was talking to henry she started telling him how he was such a good friend to steven and that she would pray for him so that he could get married soon.  i was trying to get her to stop...poor henry, i'm sure he gets enough of that from his parents.  hugged emily goodbye and almost ruined the surprise of the honeymoon to hawaii...i told her to have fun in ha...and almost said it but managed to say honeymoon.  i hope i didn't spoil it.  we finally said goodbye and headed off for tulsa, getting home around 2 something in the morning.  boy were those 3 days exhausting, but it was well worth it.  and now they're off enjoying themselves in hawaii rite now.  and thus concludes the story of my brother's wedding.  if anyone actually read everything, wow.  a zillion props to you.

the next day at church i was so tired, but made it through church w/o falling asleep once.  and of course now that the wedding was over, my sister and mike got the question about when it was gonna be their turn, and i got the question about whether or not i had a boyfriend.  sigh...shoulda known it was coming.  one day far far from now i'm gonna surprise 'em all and bring home a boy.  but i predict that's gonna be a long long time from now.  hopefully before i'm 30.  haha.

oh and a HUGE thanks to mike who was our unofficial photographer/videographer for the weekend!  w/o him you guys wouldn't have seen so many pics...but i do have like 1 roll of old school pics of the weekend if anyone wants to see them too.

and on a tangent, i finally cut my hair!  chopped off at least 10 inches to donate to locks for love.  it's not as short as i thought it would be, like almost to my shoulders, but a bit annoying b/c i can't tie back all of my hair b/c it's too short in the front since she angled it.  but whatever, my hair grows back fast.  so much more to say but i should stop here.  thanks for reading and enjoy the pics!

home sweet home

sigh...i love being home.  sad to leave tomorrow, but looking forward to 4th of july in boston (hopefully it doesn't rain and ruin the fireworks).  first couple of days i was here was spent relaxing and spending time at home, sleeping in, watching movies, just bumming around.  got to hang out w/ the youth group a few times...had pizza, sang, talked, and played games and frisbee w/ them at phong's house and church.  it's weird to see how big they've grown, but cool to see how they've matured (although still goofy and silly at times ).

tried to go running a few times around the neighborhood since i don't have fitrec here, but that didn't go so well.  for some reason it's so much easier for me to run on a treadmill then outside.  but i loved being able to run at nite in my neighborhood and being able to see the stars.  i'd be an idiot if i tried to do that around boston unless i wanted to get mugged or something.  definitely glad to have fitrec to go to in boston.

didn't get to see everyone i wanted to while i was here, but loved hanging out w/ the ppl i did see.  got to see amaka, bing, daniel, jeff c, and raashee, but missed out on seeing alex, chris, kevi, and kyle.  i tried to get us all together sunday nite to go to coldstone's, but sadly some ppl were already busy.  i guess i'll hafta wait til winter break to see everyone.  but i got to have a nice long chat w/ daniel while waiting for jeff and raashee, and had some yummy ice cream while reminiscing about the past.

pretty much the last week here was consumed w/ the wedding.  went to the mall more frequently than i did while in high school to get stuff w/ my mom and bro.  went to so many craft and home decor stores w/ my mom to get floral stuff and so on for the decorations and reception.  helped my mom w/ the floral arrangements and decorating the church.  man are weddings expensive, although hopefully when it's my turn i'll have enough to hire a decorator b/c working w/ my mom is so frustrating at times and it takes a long time doing it all yourself.  and i'll have the wedding and reception in the same city.  my bro's actual wedding ceremony was at my dad's church in tulsa, but the big reception was in okc, so we spent a lot of time driving b/w the two cities.  plus we had the engagement ceremony to go to in okc as well.  omg so hectic at times.  but everything worked out in the end and it was all very beautiful.

i'll get into the details of everything in my next post b/c i've gotta get going.  and thanks to mike and his digital camera i'll have pictures to post as well.    so until then, have a happy 4th of july everybody!

ABA anybody?

no boston ppl i'm not talking about an after branch activity (although i'm always up for those too ).  this post is for all you okies who are in tulsa (or nearby) this summer.  w/ the nba finals going on (go heat!  wade for mvp!) and my return home on tuesday for 2 weeks, i thought it would be nice to catch up w/ whoever is in town by putting an old school hang out together...yes the azn basketball association is back baby!    yes we were pretty lame back then.  but man, back in the good ol' days of high school we sure had our good times of ABA's and AFA's (and no that's not after fellowship activity either).  basically we would pick a sport we wanted to play and changed the middle letter to whatever it was (like if we did volleyball it would be an AVA).  although i think we only ended up doing basketball and football.  maybe tennis once.  anyway, so i thought it'd be fun to play some bball at hunter park in the evening sometime when it's not too hot, perhaps grab some ice cream from braum's, or go over to someone's place to watch the heat beat the mavs.    i actually don't know how busy i'm gonna be w/ all the last minute wedding preparations these next 2 weeks, but i would definitely love to hang out sometime, even if it's just for coffee or something.  so let me know if you guys would be interested in doing this or anything else.  and i better see you (yes YOU!) sometime while i'm home!  yay can't wait!

on a sidenote...i'm going to new york this weekend to visit the jungs!  it's only gonna be amy and i, but it'll still be fun.  perfect weather for a pool party.  very sad no one else could come.    i'll be back sunday afternoon or evening, which means i'm gonna miss bcec.  so goodbye boston friends and i'll be back july 4th!  let me know what the plans are for then and i'll come join you guys in the afternoon and nite time for the fireworks!
